From thermal stress to measured light.

Environmental, mechanical and photometric testing on our own equipment, and a quality management system certified to ISO 9001.

Testing equipment

Tools for measuring performance.

What each machine is, its purpose and its effect.

01

Environmental

Heat, cold, damp, sunlight, salt, water and dust.

Constant temperature & humidity

Constant temperature & humidity

A climate chamber that holds a set temperature and humidity for long periods.

Purpose
Simulates long-term heat, cold and damp.
Effect
Brings out moisture ingress, discolouration and electrical faults before products face humid or hot spaces.
Thermal shock test machine

Thermal shock test machine

A chamber that switches samples rapidly between hot and cold extremes.

Purpose
Simulates sudden, repeated temperature change.
Effect
Exposes weak solder joints and material fatigue, helping connections withstand repeated heating and cooling.
UV weathering test box

UV weathering test box

A chamber with ultraviolet lamps that speeds up the ageing effect of sunlight.

Purpose
Accelerates UV ageing of diffusers, jackets and other plastic and silicone parts.
Effect
Shows yellowing, cracking and colour shift early, helping choose materials that keep their look outdoors and in sunlit spaces.
Salt spray test machine

Salt spray test machine

A chamber that fills with a fine salt mist.

Purpose
Tests the corrosion resistance of metal parts, connectors and finishes.
Effect
Reveals rust, pitting and coating failure, which matters for coastal and outdoor projects.
Rain test chamber

Rain test chamber

A chamber that sprays water onto products from different angles.

Purpose
Checks protection against rain and splashing water, rated by the second digit of the IP code.
Effect
Finds leaks at end caps, seals and cable entries before products face the weather.
Sand & dust test machine

Sand & dust test machine

A sealed chamber that keeps fine dust circulating around the product.

Purpose
Checks protection against dust, rated by the first digit of the IP code.
Effect
Shows where dust could get past the seals. Inside, it would dim the light or harm the electronics.
02

Mechanical & transport

Bending, twisting, drops and vibration.

Winding & torsion test machine

Winding & torsion test machine

A rig that repeatedly winds, bends and twists flexible products.

Purpose
Simulates reeling, bending and shaping during installation.
Effect
Finds cracked circuits, loose LEDs and split jackets before flexible strip and neon are shaped on site.
Drop test machine

Drop test machine

A rig that drops products and their packaging from a set height.

Purpose
Simulates the knocks and falls of handling and delivery.
Effect
Reveals weak packaging and cracked housings, helping products arrive intact.
Transportation simulation tester

Transportation simulation tester

A vibration table for packed goods.

Purpose
Simulates the vibration of a long journey by road.
Effect
Reveals parts that loosen or rub in transit, so packing can be improved before goods ship.
03

Photometric

Output, colour and spectrum.

Integrating sphere

Integrating sphere

A hollow sphere with a white, diffusing interior, used with a spectroradiometer.

Purpose
Measures luminous flux, colour temperature (CCT), colour rendering (CRI, Ra), chromaticity and spectrum.
Effect
Shows whether light output and colour meet the specification, and stay consistent from batch to batch.

04 · Quality management

ISO 9001 certified.

ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It sets out how an organisation should plan, run, check and improve its work, so that its products consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Certification means an independent certification body has audited the system against the standard. Artcolor holds ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system.

What an ISO 9001 system covers

  1. Documented processes

Written procedures for how work is done, and records that show it was.

  2. Incoming, in-process and final inspection

Materials, production and finished goods are checked against requirements.

  3. Traceability

Records link each product to its materials and production batch.

  4. Nonconformity & corrective action

Nonconforming output is identified and kept apart; its cause is found and corrected.

  5. Customer feedback

Feedback and complaints are recorded, answered and acted on.

  6. Continual improvement

    The Plan–Do–Check–Act cycle, repeated.

Plan – Do – Check – Act

P · Plan
Set objectives and plan the processes.
D · Do
Carry out what was planned.
C · Check
Monitor, measure and report the results.
A · Act
Take action to improve.
